I believe that America is getting stylish. The mass retailers have raised the awareness that everyday life can have beauty. The trend is toward clean style with personal accents. The kitchen I designed is a reflection of what I see happening. The clean style of the cabinets and furniture is warmed by the collection of outsider art. The room also becomes a multipurpose space with room for seating and a desk. Time is precious with family and friends; this kitchen becomes the traditional hearth, a gathering place.

About Todd Martz

Todd Martz, with expertise in the commercial and residential design fields, is known domestically and internationally for his creative interpretations and applications. As principal of Todd Martz Interiors (TMI) — a Washington, D.C. based design firm — he works closely with a diverse client base on a multitude of projects which vary in scope and style.

Having proclaimed himself "the designer of the traditional lite", Martz views his clients' projects and the future of design to be a blend of heritage, technology and modern interpretation. With more than 20 years in the design trade, Martz understands the difference between trends and individuality. A Martz project promotes color, texture, function, lighting, and personal spirit — capturing the soul of the project and energy to stand the test of time.

As a serial entrepreneur, having created several extremely successful design entities, he was identified by The Washington Post as one of the top designers under 40 to watch in the Washington metropolitan area. In addition to TMI, he is co-owner of the AmericanEye showroom at the Washington Design Center, recognized as a new, creative and forward-thinking resource for the design community. With expertise that spans every level of the design industry, Martz brings to a select clientele his experience, professional training and industry resources that make every project unique and personal.

"Good Design Shows — it's a process of inspiration, creativity and emotion brought to life in three dimensions" — Todd Martz, 2008
